A Christmas message from Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, London:
At Christmas we remember that God has come near to us in Jesus Christ, our ‘Emmanuel’. It is a time when we are reminded of the hope that we experience through the coming of our Saviour.
At the moment, there is a focus in the news on the many problems facing people in this country and elsewhere. Many people may feel burdened with financial and other worries and we must remember them in our prayers. However, we must not forget that Christ came to save us, and so whatever difficulties face us at this present time, we should not despair.
May I wish you all a blessed and happy Christmas and my good wishes for the year ahead.
