I went to Slovakia with my sister and a friend to help Fr. Mark, the parish priest in Sikenicka, to run an English Summer Camp for the children in the parish. Fr. Mark and his sister made us very welcome on our first visit to Slovakia, and the children, aged 5-12 were very good, and took pity on their non-Slovakian, non-Hungarian speaking helpers!
The week of the camp was beautifully sunny so most of the activities were outside, and in a mixture of Hungarian, Slovakian and English. We played lots of games, (a particular favourite was the international limbo!), sang, baked poppy-seed strudel, created and performed a short drama in English, and went on a day trip to the mountains. Every day ended with Holy Mass.
We are really grateful we had the chance to take part in the Sikenicka English Summer Camp and hope everyone involved enjoyed it as much as us.
